Stuttering: Real Life Carryover Strategies for School-Aged Children
Turn fluency practice into real-life progress.
As SLPs, we often see progress in structured sessions, only to hear that our students are still struggling to use their strategies in the classroom, at home, or with friends. That’s where this course comes in.
Stuttering: Real-Life Carryover Suggestions for School-Aged Children is a focused, practical training designed specifically for speech-language pathologists who want to bridge the gap between therapy and everyday communication. You’ll learn how to move beyond worksheets and drill-based practice to foster true carryover—so your students feel empowered to use their fluency tools in real conversations, in real settings.
Led by Lori Melnitsky, a licensed speech-language pathologist and nationally recognized stuttering specialist, this course is grounded in both clinical expertise and lived experience. Lori has helped hundreds of children who stutter and brings a unique perspective as someone who also stutters herself. Her insight and empathy make this course not only informative, but deeply relatable.
Whether you’re supporting a confident communicator or a student still finding their voice, you’ll walk away with actionable strategies to make fluency therapy more effective and lasting—outside the therapy room where it matters most.

Stuttering: Real Life Carryover Suggestions for School-Aged Children
Lori Melnitsky, M.A., CCC-SLP
I’ve been a licensed speech-language pathologist for over 20 years, and I’ve dedicated my career to helping people who stutter—because I’ve lived that journey myself.
I stuttered severely until the age of 30. I couldn’t say my name out loud or raise my hand in class. I was even told by other SLPs that I’d never make it in this profession, but I didn’t let that stop me. I became an SLP, opened my private practice—All Island Speech and Stuttering Therapy—and made it my mission to help others find their voice.
Over the years, I’ve treated hundreds of children and adults who stutter. I’ve created resources like the Stuttering Boot Camp for school-aged students and launched the Stuttering DeMystified podcast and Facebook group to share knowledge and support.
I’ve had the honor of teaching graduate classes on stuttering as an adjunct professor, presenting at conferences, and even consulting on the PBS children’s show Arthur for the episode “Maria Speaks.” I’ve published work in the Journal of Fluency Disorders and have been featured by Verizon and Newsday as an expert on stuttering.
My goal is simple: to give you the tools, strategies, and confidence you need to support young children who stutter—so you can walk into every session knowing exactly what to do.
